Eyes Like Predatory Wealth, the 2022 debut from experimental drone trio Apparitions, was an exercise in isolation made necessary by physical detachment. Semel, meaning "once", exists as both an expansion and departure from their premiere work, and brings the ensemble together for the first time to document the development of a new language. A triptych of discrete freeform improvisations, captured live in their natural form by Seth Manchester, were performed after agreeing upon only key and duration. These pieces explore the unlikely connection between the disparate textures and influences that characterize Apparitions’ work.
